About Petra

My Story:

There is a lot I could tell you about myself, but you may not have a lot of of time so here is all you need to know in a nutshell:

  • As a recovering perfectionist, people pleaser, imposter and generally highly strung anxious fretter, I have lived experience as a high-performing professional having to find my own balance between challenging professional demands, my ambitions and wellbeing.

  • My personal experiences have resulted in a keen interest in the science of wellbeing and human performance. I am a positive psychology and neuroscience nerd and have experienced the powerful effect of mindfulness and Acceptance & Commitment Training (ACT) practices on my work and private life.

  • These mind skills have been transformative, allowing me to step out of autopilot and compulsive goal chasing and instead into an intentional and flexible life, which is aligned with my own values. I have also experienced the positive effect these mind skills had on my non-clinical professional skills.

  • During the COVID pandemic, I experienced multiple significant life events. It was not an easy time, personally and professionally, but I managed to emerge from these ‘lifequakes’ as a stronger person. This made me realise how much more resilient I have become, and it motivated me to support others in overcoming their own challenges.

  • Have I now reached the point of permanent confidence and fearlessness? No, of course not. Being human means that it is completely normal to experience feelings of uncertainty and anxiety at times of change and challenge. But I now know that people with truly resilient minds are the ones who use courage and wisdom to work with and learn from difficult internal experiences, rather than not feeling them in the first place!

My Formal Qualifications and Experience:

  • I have been a vet for almost 25 years. In addition to spending many years in first opinion practice, I have over 12 years’ experience as a veterinary specialist in a multi-disciplinary referral practice, and over 5 years’ experience in a leadership position

  • Since 2014: Keen interest in the science of wellbeing including positive psychology, mindfulness and related neuroscience. Mindfulness and Insight meditation practitioner (including MBSR and MSC courses as well as multiple silent retreats). In 2017 I have been blogging for charity, sharing evidence-based information on the science of wellbeing in the Good Life Campaign blog. Since 2020, I have also been an ACT practitioner.

My Approach:

My coaching approach is aligned with the strong ethical framework of the International Coaching Federation (ICF). This means that the coaching process centres on your needs and preferences, and you remain in charge throughout the whole coaching program.

If you choose to combine coaching with mentoring, the difference between both methods will be clearly explained to you at the beginning and during our work together, and I will always ask your permission before suggesting or sharing new practices and exercises.

I believe that you know what is best for you, and that you already carry all the skills that you need inside you- it is just a question of re-discovering them and applying them more consistently. I draw from different approaches and methods, but with a focus on Acceptance & Commitment Coaching (ACC) and mindfulness practices, because there is evidence that these methods are very effective in reconnecting us with our inner skills, and allowing us to make the right choices and take the right actions in order to live the life we want to live. However, coaching and certain mind skill exercises such as formal mindfulness practices may not be the right thing for you right now, and it is therefore important to discuss your needs, challenges and wishes in a free check-in session, before starting our work together.

Fun Facts:

  • My top 5 values are: Compassion, Courage, Learning, Connection, Open-mindedness.

  • I can speak German, English and Czech.

  • What I cannot go without: coffee.

  • My favourite quote: I have several! You can find my current favourites on this website.
